President's Message
Fall 2009
Dear Members and Friends:
As we look forward to what will hopefully be our most successful football season of the past three years, let’s take a moment to review some significant events and achievements of our Club over the past few months, as well as what’s in store in the near future. This edition of the NDCLA Newsletter provides in-depth reports ranging from last April’s Alumni Senate and our on campus luncheon with LA area Domers, to July’s Freshmen Send-Off where we welcomed incoming Freshmen and their families to the Notre Dame family, to the upcoming season’s Game Watch locations.
Our Club’s mission includes supporting current students, representing the University’s goals and values in our local community, and serving our alumni base. This year the Club will provide over $270,000 in scholarships to 80 LA area Notre Dame students. Your contributions have played a significant role in the ability of many students to attend our great University. We also sponsor two Summer Service Projects in Los Angeles, as well as maintaining our commitment to the Cross-Cultural Leadership Intern Program. As alumni, we organize and participate in feeding the homeless at the Samoshel shelter in Santa Monica and other community service focused events.
Though our alumni base continues to impress with your generosity and selfless spirit, we also enjoy some fun and football once in a while. To feed that desire the Club once again sanctioned two official Game Watch locations, organized an incredible trip to South Bend for the USC weekend, is sponsoring a golf tournament at the beautiful Los Verdes golf course on October 5th, organizes monthly happy hours / networking events, and will host an appreciation dinner for our Blue and Gold members. Please continue to participate in our great events and feel free to volunteer. We’re always looking for new ideas and recommendations to help us serve the students, community, and alumni.
Yours in Notre Dame,
Robert J. Menz '00
President
