PRAY AT NOTRE DAME, WHEREVER YOU ARE!
|
|
For many, the University of Notre Dame is a sacred place where people of all ages draw strength to love, to suffer in hope, to find faith in challenge, to discover their path, and ultimately, to remember their purpose. Pray at Notre Dame is our effort to bring the spiritual resources of our Lady's University to you.
When visiting the site, we encourage you to submit prayer requests. On a weekly basis, designated Alumni Association representatives will honor these requests by lighting a special green candle at the Grotto - with each petition receiving a personal response. To date, the site has received more than 80,000 hits and 5,000 prayer requests.

FOOTBALL WEEKENDS AT NOTRE DAME: Snapshots and Traditions
|
|
The University of Notre Dame Press
By Bill Schmitt, with photography by Lou Sabo
When people ask the question, "What makes a football weekend at Notre Dame
so special?" members of the Notre Dame family know that it could take an
entire book to give the whole answer. This is that book.
With over 100 color photographs, Schmitt and Sabo capture the unique
traditions that take place on game day weekend, both on and off the field.
An excerpt from the Preface:
"Every fall, hundreds of thousands of Notre Dame football fans observe their
version of a 'liturgical calendar' of feast days - a series of weekends for
gathering in and around South Bend, Indiana, to enjoy a kind of communion
that overcomes chronic fragmentation. They have seen with their own eyes,
perhaps as Notre Dame students, or as members of the Notre Dame family, or
as its neighbors or its friends, that there are some things you don't have
to be cynical about. There are some things you don't have to trivialize, or
compartmentalize, or back away from as the other guy's definition of
reality."

NOTRE DAME AND THE GAME THAT CHANGED FOOTBALL: HOW JESSE HARPER MADE THE FORWARD PASS A WEAPON AND KNUTE ROCKNE A LEGEND
|
|
By Frank Maggio (ND Alumni)
Need some self-preservation during this difficult football season? Trying to shop for the holidays? Relive some of the glory days of Notre Dame football!
This book details not only the historic 1913 Notre Dame versus Army game and the emergence of the forward pass, but also the emergence of Notre Dame's reputation as an elite athletic and academic university.
"There is probably more confusion and misconception about the 1913 Notre Dame - Army game than any game in football history. Frank Maggio sets the record straight in this well-researched book on this trendsetting contest. One could easily make the argument that the 1913 Notre Dame - Army game was when modern football was born."
