Paul Dubé, Terry Moriel, Rob Menz

The Board of Directors held its annual Christmas dinner at Buca di Beppo in Pasadena on Wednesday December 8, 2010. Everyone had a great time during this festive event. When the meal was over, Rob Menz, our club president, went through the list of board members and their accomplishments for the year. He saved the last two names to announce a new award, Board Member of the Year. Paul Dubé, the runner-up was awarded a $25 gift certificate and the new NDCLA Board Member of the Year, Terry Moriel, received a gift certificate for $50.

Congratulations to all of the board members who helped to make 2010 a very successful year.

2010 IrishFest

A great crowd of fans came this year to help us cheer on the Irish. The party was held at Jesse Brewer Park and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. The temperature was a bit nippy in the tents and the shade but the sun was warm and the crowd had a great time to the music of the Ploughboys. As usual, In-n-Out provided their Double-Double meals and were joined by first-time vendors MWH Concessions with their Kettle Corn and Ry's Doghouse with a selection of hot dogs and sausages. This event was enjoyed by people from all over the country who came to watch the Irish beat USC.

Too bad the weather couldn't hold out for the game. But the rain was an omen to USC that their reign over the Irish is over and that Notre Dame is BACK! When the game was over, sullen faces could only be found on USC fans as the Irish were all smiles!! The rain woke up the echoes and cheered Notre Dame to victory!

2010 "Game Is On" Luncheon

The 2010 "Game Is On Luncheon" was a festive and thoroughly enjoyable event again this year. The Emcees. (Notre Dame Basketball All-American)Tommy Harper and (USC Wide Receiver and Senior Associate AD)Jk McCain, were good naturedly giving barbs back and forth and kept the function moving smoothly. Speakers included: For USC President: Max Nikias, Athletic Director (and former USC Quarterback and former Notre Dame announcer): Pat Haden, Head Coach: Lane Kiffin, former Butkus Award winner: Chris Claiborn . For ND President: Rev. John Jenkins, Athletic Director: Jack Swarbrick, Head Coack: Brian Kelly and former players (Team Captain and broadcaster on ESPN's "Mike and Mike" In the Morning Show): Mike Golic and (Great Receiver, Super Bowl Champion and Broadcaster): Derrick Mayes.

The Westin Bonaventure Hotel was a beautiful contrast to what was going to take place the next day on the gridiron. The meal was scrumptious with a football-shaped stuffed chocolate football on a kickng tee for dessert. All patrons received a commerative pair of highball glasses depicting the the logos of both universities and the event. Everyone was respectful and happy. All of the tables were mixed with Notre Dame and USC alumni and friends. The speakers all spoke of the long standing rivalry in the reverence it deserves (aside from the good-natured humor). The game will show the intensity of what it is like to be part of the greatest college rivalry in sports. I doubt that the rhetoric will be as polite as during the luncheon! At this event, however, these two great universities brought out the class and respect they have for each other.
